Ideas & Uses

There are many ways to use Got it Cards in the classroom or at home.

FLASH CARDS
You can use them as stand alone flash cards in whatever way you wish.

WORD RECOGNITION

Just by sorting them and naming the pictures, young children are learning the words without realizing. Have them play snap, simple memory or Got it Grab, then test their memory of the words by covering the pictures.

NB: If they are playing memory, start with a few pairs or sets , depending on their age and ability and then build up the numbers as they go on.

SPELLING

After playing the game for a while, they can be tested on the spelling of the words.

CONVERSATION

By playing Got it Grab they have to use whole sentences and ask different members of the group for single specific cards which can be a done in a variety of ways, encouraging politeness and acceptance etc. They also have to use their memory to remember who has which cards. This game works well in groups of 4 to 6 students.

MEMORY

The 2 memory games are excellent for children to expand their concentration skills. With the pairs memory game they take turns to find pairs (turning over 2 cards at a time), and with the advanced memory game they have to find 3’s or sets which is much harder and is a terrific challenge even for older children and  adults!

THEMES

As the Got it cards are in 8 different themes they can be used as starting points for discussions about those subjects and other things you might find in the country, city or the sea etc…They could also make pictures or stories based on those subjects.

STORY TELLING
Choose one, two or three of the cards at random (from one or more packets), and then the children can incorporate them into a story. They can write their own or work in groups. A fun way to do it is one word stories where they are in groups of up to 6 children and they know the words they have to use and somehow build up a story together and they will incorporate the words as they go along. The other way to do it is children are able to do a sentence each before they pass the story on to build. It is a good exercise for their memory and listening skills as well.
